Kinesiology taping (commonly called K Tape) is the application of a thin, elastic, cotton tape to reduce stress on injuries and assist with inflammatory conditions. K-Taping can be used to temporarily reinforce a posture or position or to assist with lymphatic return.
Rocktape is a leading brand of Kinesio tape and the product we choose for our taping. K Tape can also be used to assist a lot of sporting activities and injuries, and is often thought of as Sports Taping. You can have taping as part of Remedial or Sports Massage, or Myotherapy.
Taping can be used for conditions such as
Many amateur and professional athletes use sports taping as part of their injury and pain management, and have it as part of their sports massage treatment.
Taping can be provided by both our Myotherapists, Remedial therapists and sports massage therapists. Your therapist can let you know if they believe you would benefit from sports taping. You can also request taping. Taping is included in Myotherapy treatments, but there is an additional cost of $10 if you have it as part of a Remedial Massage. Taping will often be provided in conjunction with other techniques such as
If you are unsure about what kind of treatment to have you can call us to discuss your needs. Generally if you are dealing with an injury and pain, especially if this has been ongoing Myotherapy would be the best place to start. If you are experiencing a strain then a Remedial treatment will be fine. If you want to work with someone for sports massage treatments you can discuss with them when taping might be best.
Take it off immediately if the tape is itchy, painful or feels noticeable in any way. Your therapist will tell you what to look out for. If you ignore these symptoms – you may get a blister which can take time to recover. We advise people to monitor their tape daily. As a general rule, fair skinned individuals shouldn’t leave tape on for more than two days. Blistered skin should have an antiseptic applied immediately.
Your therapist will determine what skin type and how reactive you are. We use hypo allergenic ROcktape – one of the highest quality kinesio tapes in the world. If you don’t feel itchy, sore or notice the tape – it’s probably ok to keep on for up to a week. But your therapist will look at your skin and risk factors first.
