What is Cold Level Laser Therapy Brisbane?

Cold Laser Therapy, also known as Low Level Laser Therapy or Photo-biomodulation - is a light therapy using red and near infra-red light.  The light is generated by both Laser diodes and LED lights. Cold Laser Therapy has been used medically since the 1960’s but has only really been affordable in recent years with the advent of cheaper LED diodes.

Cold Laser Therapy works primarily on the cell’s energy supply – the mitochondria.

When an enzyme the mitochondria produces is exposed to the red and near infra-red light – it becomes SUPER efficient at making a hormone called ATP – 8 times as efficient on average.

This means that the cells are performing incredibly well and moving blood, hormones and other chemicals efficiently to REDUCE PAIN improve movement and accelerate healing.

TO CLARIFY - LOW LEVEL LASERS AND LEDS AREN’T HOT (THERMAL). THE EFFECT IS CHEMICAL (LIGHT INDUCING A CHEMICAL RESPONSE IN THE CELLS OF THE BODY) – SIMILAR TO PHOTOSYNTHESIS IN PLANTS.

What can Cold Laser Therapy treat?

Cold Laser Therapy is versatile – it can be used to stimulate cellular function (improve the rate of healing), or to inhibit cellular response (reduce pain or inflammation).  For example, high intensity settings over a nerve supply can temporarily inhibit fast axonal flow- providing analgesia and pain relief. Laser is commonly used in dentistry and general medicine.

Cold Laser Therapy has been proven effective in the management of joint conditions, soft tissue injuries and for neck and back pain. It is also broadly used for neuropathic pain, non-healing leg and pressure ulcers and to minimise scars from recent wounds.  In 2008 the World Health Organisation recommended that Cold Laser Therapy be utilised as part of a best practice treatment of neck and back pain.

Some conditions that can be treated with low level laser are:

Why have Low Level Laser Therapy?

Cold Laser Therapy is a pain free intervention that is - in its own right – an excellent short-term analgesia.  When combined with manual therapy the results are long lasting. Low Level Laser Therapy prepares the muscles to receive deep massage very well.

When used to promote healing for nerve damage – numerous studies have shown rapid recovery from nerve injury, muscle strain/tear, tendinopathies, bursitis and tissue injuries like cuts and burns.  (Healing acceleration treatments usually require 2-3 treatments in a short space 7-9 days to be effective. Knead Myotherapy offer a number of discounted package treatments for those interested in recovering from injury quickly.
