What is Neuro Kinetic Therapy (NKT)

The fundamental concept behind Neuro Kinetic therapy is the brain controls movement patterns, and dysfunctional movements arise due to imbalances in these patterns. By identifying and correcting these imbalances, NKT aims to alleviate pain, optimize performance, and restore overall physical well-being.

Often touted as the missing link between remedial massage and exercise rehabilitation, NKT is gaining recognition for addressing chronic pain and rehabilitating injuries such as Sacroiliac Joint Dysfunction, TMJ Disorder, Gluteal Disorder, Thoracic Outlet Syndrome, Plantar Fasciitis, Golfers Elbow, Tennis Elbow. Neuro kinetic Therapy is also excellent at relieving stress related disorders and psychosomatic symptoms. This year Claire has been working with clients who are experiencing higher stress levels, brain fog and chronic fatigue due to Covid, chronic asthma attacks and breathing disorders with effective results.

In our lives we create new neural kinetic pathways by how we sit, stand and move through our days. NKT addresses these imbalances by supporting our muscular skeletal system and rebalancing the body. This creates tensegrity and ease of movement.

How does NKT work?

In Neuro kinetic therapy we ask a series of health related questions pertaining to your history of injury and then test the muscles we think are unresponsive first to get a map of how to progress. Then we release the muscles that are over-working instead of the unresponsive ones. We then go back to the muscle that was unresponsive and test again for a response. Our goal is to achieve what is called a Neural Lock. This neural lock allows the muscles that have been working overtime to relax and for the dormant ones to function as normal, and often this relieves the pain felt by our clients immediately.

Who is Neuro Kinetic Therapy best for

NKT can be used to realign anyone, however it is most impressive when treating clients who have had long lasting pain symptoms that have been described as chronic. Benefits: by addressing compensatory patterns and promoting proper muscle activation, NKT offers a comprehensive framework to reprogram the brain, and restore proper muscle function. By addressing the underlying causes of pain and dysfunction, Neuro kinetic therapy opens up new avenues for rehabilitation, pain management, and improved physical performance. As research and understanding in this field continue to evolve, Neuro Kinetic Therapy holds great promise for individuals seeking a holistic approach to healing and well-being.

Senior Remedial Therapist, NeuroKinetic Therapist

How Claire works

Using a series of tests, Claire your therapist will ask you to push against her own pressure while you are on the table to test which muscles are responsive. She will perform a number of physical kinetic tests that are used to find and target specific muscle groups and design a strategy to strengthen the neural kinetic pathway that has been unresponsive. Using this framework Claire will then use activated trigger point, myofascial release and effleurage to affect the muscle/s that require release. Another series of tests will be used to check on the success of the connection and then re-tensioning homework will be given to you to take home and use towards rehabilitation.

Wow AMAZING! I went in expecting a ‘mere massage’ to soothe the pains of a sore lower back, but Claire was incredible at working on the cause of the issue, on par with any physio. Walked out feeling a million times lighter. Thankyou!
