Pathway to the present...
I began studying Remedial Massage and Kinesiology in 1993 at the Australian College of Natural Medicine, Brisbane. I became interested in Massage after returning from an inner journey that saw me travel through Nepal & India and then hitchhiking around England, Wales, Ireland and Scotland. Most of the journey was done alone in an effort to come to grips with long-term depression (and its associated symptoms) and a sense of not belonging to, or being connected to the world around me. Essentially – I ran away from my problems.
No matter where you go – there you are! - Buckaroo Bonzai….
Anyone who has run away, hoping that a change in the external world will help “fix” their problems will tell you that Buckaroo is spot on. I returned home with the same depression and feelings and had the realization that I had to “choose” to take life by the horns and to “live” it. I decided to learn about my physical body and so undertook the Remedial Massage course. Part of the course was “Touch For Health”, and that Kinesiology could access a person’s subconscious and cellular memories to re-balance the body. This lead to further study into the Mind – Body connection, and the process in which memories and traumatic events can be stored and later affect a person’s structural, chemical, mental and emotional energy systems. It took 2 ½ years, but finally I was able to say I was healthy, happy and depression-free!
Wisdom is a life that knows it is living – Moravian prayer book…
I worked in New Farm, at the Hands of Light clinic for a few years and also from a private clinic. I worked for over 2 years exploring the effects of therapeutic touch on psychotic and severely impaired adults with intellectual and physical disabilities in an institution. I fell in love and lived in Seoul, Korea for nearly 4 years. I gave myself a break from Natural Therapies for a year - time to process what I had learned. I looked at theology, philosophy and explored the poetry of Eastern and Western Mysticism and studied the many ways in which humans reach for the divine in themselves and our external world.
You must understand the whole of life, not just one little part of it. That is why you must read, that is why you must look at the skies - that is why you must sing and dance, and write poems, and suffer, and understand, for all that is life. - J. Krishnamurti
After moving back to Brisbane, with lingering health issues after having children, I decided to explore more Bio-energetic modalities. I received my Reiki Master level III, which led me to explore more Holistic forms of Counseling. I have found through clinical practice that the most effective and lasting positive changes that people made were by processing the emotions and attitudes attached to problems. I wanted to be able to assist people on all levels of their awareness. I have found that the combination of skills I have acquired is extremely helpful in the healing process. Along the way, I have also managed to cure myself of a long-term hormonal dysfunction - something which no Western Medical practitioner could help with!
You cannot teach a man anything, you can only help him to find it within himself. – Galileo…
I love what I do for a living. Connecting with people and helping them find a sense of joy, peace and control over their life. Teaching clients to use their strengths and develop skills to improve their resilience and flexibility in difficult situations. Helping create an environment where clients can make conscious choices about how they are going to act and react. I look forward to meeting you. There is always so much more to learn…
You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself in any direction you choose. You're on your own. And you know what you know. You are the guy who'll decide where to go. – Dr. Seuss
