Qualifications
Diploma of Remedial Massage, The Massage Academy 2008Currently working towards a Physiotherapy Degree
Pathway to the present…
Before the school sports carnival, I remember my mum warming up my legs with a sports-style massage, and explaining to me how important it is to stretch before and after sports. Whether it was due good preparation, or that there was only 12 others in my grade—I took out age champion that year—it is my earliest memory of massage. It was in 1993.I have always been interested in anatomy and health. This may have been the influence of my mum who massaged part time after her chef days, and my eldest sister who is a yoga enthusiast and teacher. Throughout high school I received fairly regular massages after rugby union and basketball games, and experienced first hand how massage improved my recovery and injury time, whilst helping me to feel great. I completed a Certificate IV in massage at the Massage Academy in April 2008, and a week later, I was working 4 days a week as a massage therapist at my local Chiropractic and Massage clinic. A few months later, I began the Diploma of Remedial Massage to further my understanding about the body. I currently work at two massage clinics, and have once again gone back to study, this time at the University of Queensland, in aim of becoming a Physiotherapist.
What are my treatments like…
My massage style is based on the smooth and flowing Swedish approach, with influences of Thai, Shiatsu, Deep tissue, Remedial and stretching techniques. I use a combination of methods depending on the body I am working on, and try to suit it to my clients needs. I also enjoy practicing a sports-style massage, which is firm with some rhythmic percussion.
What do I love about Massage…
I like how massage can leave someone in an altered state. It can be uplifting, revitalising, relaxing and soothing. I enjoy seeing the benefits massage can bring—an improved quality of life, healthier and happier lives, and remembering the importance of looking after the body we live in. My goal is to one day combine massage and physio techniques, and help those who need it most.I look forward to meeting you. Zachery Emery
